Overview

Score VIP Tickets to the 2024 Venice Film Festival

If you call yourself a film fan, prove it by picking up some VIP tickets to the 2024 Venice International Film Festival. Along with Cannes, Berlin, TIFF and Sundance, this is one of the Big Five film festivals. It’s a place where cinematic legends are made. Every year in late summer, celebrities, filmmakers and members of the press clear their schedules to attend premieres and parties in Venice, one of Europe’s great artistic cities. This year, 21 films will complete for several prestigious awards, including the Golden Lion, the Silver Lion and the Volpi Cup, in the 81st edition of this preeminent film festival.

When is the 2024 Venice Film Festival?

The 2024 Venice Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday, August 28th. The opening ceremony is typically held in the Sala Grande within the Palazzo del Cinema. The festival closes on Saturday, September 7th with an elaborate closing ceremony where the winners are revealed.

Where is the Venice Film Festival held?

The Venice Film Festival is held in (you guessed it!) Venice, Italy, also known as Venezia. More specifically, films premiere at various venues on the Lido di Venezia. Located on a 7-mile barrier island in the Lagoon of Venice, this part of the city is known for its historic landmarks and lavish hotels that have hosted artists, writers, politicians, celebrities and royalty. The City of Canals offers more than 400 bridges and miles of waterways for residents and visitors to explore. It also features a host of jaw-dropping landmarks from the Doge’s Palace to Piazza San Marco. These attractions make Venice a great place to explore between the various star-studded parties and premieres.

What’s the lineup for the 2024 Venice Film Festival?

La Biennale di Venezia, the organization that manages the festival, maintains historical archives and hands out awards for achievements in art, dance, music and theater, has just released the official lineup. And folks, it’s impressive. The festival will open with Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Although it’s not competing for awards, the premiere will be highly anticipated thanks to its star-studded cast that includes Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe. It also stars Burton’s beautiful partner Monica Bellucci and Jenna Ortega of Jane the Virgin, who leads a savage dance scene.

Another highly anticipated noncompetitor is Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple TV series Disclaimer. This psychological thriller features performances from Cate Blanchett, Sacha Baron Cohen and Kevin Kline. Here’s an overview of some of the other contenders.

  • Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux, starring serial award winners Lada Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix
  • Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door, starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore
  • Pablo Larraín’s biopic Maria, featuring Angelina Jolie as legendary opera singer Maria Callas
  • Halina Reijn’s Babygirl, an erotic thriller with performances from Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas, Harris Dickinson and Jean Reno
  • Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, a 1940s period piece based on a William Burroughs book, starring Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville and Jason Schwartzman
  • Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce
  • Justin Kurzel’s crime drama The Order, featuring Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult and Tye Sheridan
  • Jon Watt’s Wolfs, starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney
