Overview

Frankly, I was getting tired of wondering if Daniel Craig was going to be typecast after playing Bond, James Bond, for the last few years. It looks like he’s landed on his feet with Knives Out, which has its U.S. theatrical release on November 27. I would have been so downhearted if even the former JB couldn’t find work, especially after all his world-saving, death-defying adventures solely meant to benefit his Queen and her country.
And what a random choice Craig made by deciding to star as an inquisitive master detective checking into a family gathering that became a murder. He could have done a cop film or a film with an ensemble cast that will make him appear to be the smartest man in the room, regardless of who else is in the room with him–at least.
Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Katherine Langford, Christopher Plummer and Don Johnson will keep you guessing while the butler keeps bringing the drinks to keep your whistle wet. This is not a format that is entirely unfamiliar to the English or to the myriads of international British. In actuality it is very familiar to fans on both sides of the pond. It absolutely reminds, in fact it dares to emulate, classic murder mysteries from such authors as Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the new generation of upcoming authors clamoring and clawing to find a place in the rotation for their novels, novellas and open verse. Rian Johnson directed this film, which has scored an impressive 99% at Rotten Tomatoes and did quite well at other online film rating sites, and it’s been universally hailed as sharp, entertaining and mirthful. Johnson is known for his 3 films, Brick, Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi films, where he established himself as a great director who has more than a passing interest in sci-fi films.
And if you have an interest in Johnson’s films or if you’re a fan of any of the actors–or murder mysteries themselves, you must get on down to watch it on November 14, in the most gorgeous place to be in November, that city of angels and those who tempt them–the city they call Los Angeles.
