Experience Disney’s Dark Side at the “Maleficent” Movie Premiere
Aside from that shocking part of “Bambi,” Disney has worked hard to hide its dark side, until now. The brand’s commitment to sunshine, rainbows and unbelievable Disney moments has taken a sharp left turn with the dark fantasy, “Maleficent,” which is premiering in Hollywood on May 28, 2014. Fans of fairy tales, fantasies and crazy Tim Burton-style productions will love this dark spin on an ageless classic. The acting is top-notch, and the writing is exceptional thanks to Linda Woolverton, the greatest screenwriter you’ve never heard of–unless you’re a super fan of “Beauty and the Beast” or “The Lion King.” “Maleficent” takes movie fans back to 14th century France and into a magical world described in Charles Perrault’s “Sleeping Beauty.” He’s the same guy who penned “Cinderella” and other stories that were later retold by the Brothers Grimm. Superstar actress Angelina Jolie brings the tortured villain Maleficent to life, telling the story of how her fairy wings were taken by her spiteful aunt, Queen Ulla, the master of the fairies. Elle Fanning plays Princess Aurora, who becomes Sleeping Beauty after her dear mother Maleficent curses her. This world of fairy princesses wouldn’t be complete without a few kings and princes, horses and lots of action, so there’s something for everyone in this family-friendly, PG-rated flick. Award-winning art supervisor Robert Stromberg is making his directorial debut with an all-star cast and an all-out production budget. Disney certainly knows how to make a movie, so it’s safe to assume that they will throw one heck of a premiere and after-party. The talent alone is enough to draw a huge crowd and a long line of fans who are ready to snatch up their VIP movie premiere tickets. It’s never too early to get your tickets, but if you wait, it could be too late.
