As the name implies, this awards show differs from other film award shows because the nominees and winners are chosen by film and television critics, and film critics are notoriously. . . well, they’re notoriously critical of films. They have studied films and understand what goes into making a film. They have their own concept of what makes a film great. You may not agree with them. You might have you own idea of what makes a film enjoyable. That’s OK. Even Siskel and Ebert TV routinely disagreed–sometimes to the point of being snarky. There’s no academy. Box office is irrelevant. What matters is only what the critics think.
The 2020 version will be the 25th annual Critics’ Choice. This year, it’s on January 12th (estimated date), a couple of weeks before the Oscars®. Will it have a bearing on the Academy Awards®? That’s doubtful. But it will have a direct effect on the people who win an award. Naturally, the show is being held in beautiful Los Angeles, where the beautiful people love to party hearty, just like we all do. It’s at the Hollywood Palladium, by the way. You’ll like it there.
